Bipolar Disorders

Previously known as manic-depressive illness, bipolar disorder is a mental health condition marked by extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These mood changes can influence a person’s energy, activity levels, judgment, behavior, and daily functioning. Types of bipolar disorder include:

  • Bipolar I Disorder: It is characterized by episodes of mania and often major depression. Manic episodes are intense and can last at least a week, sometimes necessitating hospitalization.
  • Bipolar II Disorder: Involves depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, which are less severe than full mania. Hypomanic episodes generally don’t cause significant impairment and may feel like a “high.”
  • Cyclothymic Disorder (Cyclothymia):It is a milder form of bipolar disorder with periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms that are less severe but still affect daily life.

Conduct Disorders

Conduct Disorder (CD) is a behavioral and emotional disorder identified in childhood or adolescence, characterized by a consistent pattern of behavior that infringes on the rights of others or social norms.

This disorder is among the most severe childhood psychiatric conditions and can have long-lasting consequences if untreated. Those with conduct disorder often show a variety of disruptive and antisocial behaviors in various settings, such as home, school, and community, including aggression, destructiveness, deceitfulness, and rule-breaking.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), commonly known as depression, is a mental health condition marked by ongoing feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities. Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) is a mood disorder first identified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5).
